Secure Printing (PaperCut) FAQ
What is Secure Printing?
Secure Printing is a new optional printing service powered by PaperCut that allows you to send documents to a secure virtual print queue and release them at any participating university printer when you're ready to print.
When will Secure Printing be available?
Secure Printing will be available beginning July 22, 2026 as an optional printing method for faculty and staff.
Is Secure Printing required?
No. Secure Printing is being introduced as an optional service. Existing printing methods will continue to be available during the initial rollout.
How does Secure Printing work?
- Print your document to the Secure Print queue.
- Go to any participating university printer.
- Scan the QR code displayed on the printer or use the link provided in your email notification.
- Authenticate and release your print job.
What are the benefits of Secure Printing?
- Print from any participating university printer.
- Protect sensitive and confidential information.
- Reduce documents left unattended at printers.
- Eliminate the need to send jobs to a specific printer in advance.
- Reduce waste from unclaimed print jobs.
How long will my print job remain available?
Print jobs will remain in the secure queue for 24 hours before being automatically deleted if not released.
Can I print from any university printer?
Yes. Documents sent to the Secure Print queue can be released from any participating university printer connected to the PaperCut system.
Will my print jobs be visible to other users?
No. Print jobs are held securely in your personal queue and can only be released after you authenticate.
What happens if I send a document to the wrong printer?
If you use the Secure Print queue, you don't need to select a specific printer. Simply release your document at the printer most convenient for you.
Do I need to install new software?
No
Can I print from my laptop?
Yes. Any device configured with the university's printing services can send documents to the Secure Print queue.
What happens if I release the wrong document?
You can review your queued jobs before releasing them. If an incorrect job is printed, you may delete remaining queued jobs before they are released.
Can I save the URL on my smartphone?
To save a website URL to your iPhone home screen, open Safari, go to the webpage, tap the Share button (square with an upward arrow), and select Add to Home Screen. Rename the shortcut if you like, then tap Add.
